It's red on the inside in the same way that the Prince of Wales is dark
green, and it's better than the Talkhouse next door. Four bitters on cask,
two keg stouts and a number of ciders in bottles, an old map of
Buckinghamshire by the Gents, and stuffed polecats in a display case in
one of the corners. Unfortunately you can't phone in to the call box from
outside. Big roaring fire, even on warm evenings at the end of March.

Big filling portions of food --- the cottage pies are huge and come with
chips or potatoes. Pork and apricot pie a bit dry for my tastes. The
typical main course is about six pounds, but is bigger than most main
courses I've seen at pubs recently, as are the desserts, which are the
normal price.

I've heard folk plugging this as the best pub in Oxfordshire; I wouldn't
go that far, but it's one of the best fifteen I've come across, and
certainly one of the better ones for food. (31.iii.1998)
